Dr. Iris Miao grew up in Houston, TX. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and earned her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Afterwards, she completed her cornea and contact lens residency at the University of Alabama. During her residency, she was trained in fitting specialty contact lenses for patients with irregular corneas secondary to keratoconus, corneal scarring, and post-surgical complications. The types of contact lenses she fits include gas permeable, hybrid lenses, scleral lenses, and orthokeratology. She is certified in corneal reshaping technology (CRT) for myopia control.
Dr. Miao is a therapeutic optometrist and an optometric glaucoma specialist. She is experienced in the medical management of a variety of ocular conditions including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and dry eye disease. She is also a member of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and American Optometric Association (AOA).
My passion is optometry. The experiences that I have had with my patients throughout my career drives my passion. Whether it is the four-year-old with a traumatic hyphemia, the keratoconus patient seeing 20/20 for the first time in years, or the patient referred to surgery for a retinal detachment repair, each patient encounter I’ve had is special and has made me a better clinician. I see an incredibly bright future for the field of optometry, and I also strongly believe that if you are doing what you love, then you will never work a day in your life.
In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, painting, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.
